School Information & Policies

  • Absence Policy:
Students are expected to be in school unless illness or a family emergency keeps them from attending. On the day a student is absent from school, a parent or guardian should notify the school by phone by 9:30am. Upon returning to school, the parent or guardian must provide a written excuse stating the date(s) and reason for the absence. The student must be in attendance in order to attend after-school activities. Each parent or guardian of a child within the compulsory school attendance age is responsible for the child's regular and puctural attendance at school as required by law.
  • Early Dismissal:
As a direct response to the school departments' legal responsibility to all of our students, no student is to be dismissed to anyone except a parent/guardian or designated adult who must show proper identification.

Before dismissing anyone, a dismissal note, signed by the parent or legal guardian at the start of the school day or at the actual time of dismissal, must be delivered to the school office. Parents/Guardians not providing a note MUST complete a dismissal form when the student is dismissed. All such notes/forms are filed and retained by the office. In addition, each school's dismissal log must be filled out. NO STUDENTS ARE DISMISSED WITHOUT THIS REQUIRED PAPERWORK. There are no exceptions to this policy.
  • Extended Absences Policy:
The Pawtucket School Department is strongly opposed to the practice of students being removed from school for extended periods of time for the reasons other than the student's own illness.

It cannot be stressed enough that this practice may be extremely detrimental to a student's academic progress, regardless of his/her grade level. Each child is responsible for completing missed assignments, as determined by the classroom teacher. In many cases, depending upon the student's academic standing, prolonged absence may nevertheless result in retention.

Please be aware that, other than for personal illness, if a child is absent from school for more than ten (10) consecutive school days, he/she will be removed from the school's attendance rolls and must re-register upon his/her return. Other than for illness, seats are not held beyond a two (2) week period for any student.
  • Medication Policy:
Medication dispensed during the school day must have the proper permission forms filled out BEFORE medication will be given by our school nurse. Please do not send medicine to school with your child unless you have filled out the required forms and have had them signed by your child's doctor. Daily medications are administered during the lunch hours only. The parent/guardian assumes responsibility for informing the school of any change in medication.

Over-the-counter medications such as Tylenol, Motrin, Tums, Benadryl and cough drops may be administered by our school nurse IF an Over-the-Counter Medication permission slip, signed by the parent/guardian, is submitted to the school.
  • School Hours:
    9:00am - 3:10pm
  • Tardiness:
Students are expected to arrive on time. All students who are late for school must first report to the main office to get a late slip. Students who are late and have a written excuse from a parent or guardian stating the date and the reason for the tardiness are excused. All other instances of tardiness are unexcused.
